Trek in the rural highlands of Ethiopia
We arrange community walks along the Meket Escarpment, which let you experience the Ethiopian mountains and wildlife while you learn more about how people live in rural Ethiopia. There are more than a dozen campsites in the mountain chains of the Lasta Massif. They’re community-tourism initiatives, which simply means that they’ve been set up so that remote rural communities can benefit from tourism too.
You stop to chat to local people you pass, your guide translating as well as explaining the customs and the practical challenges for people living here. Some days you picnic, and others you enjoy a sit-down lunch prepared by local people. If you’re walking for more than one day, you sleep in one of the community-run eco-lodges. Your walk can last from one to 11 nights, depending on your time and your fitness.
DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN ADDIS ABABA AND EXPLORE THE CITY IN THE AFTERNOON. Overnight at HEYDAY HOTEL or similar
